Cardiac success surgeries ​

The most common diagnoses in Viet Nam are heart valve disease and congenital heart disease. The treatment for these conditions is surgery and is readily available at the local Da Nang hospital. Surgery costs between $2,000 to $5,000, but is way beyond most patients' means.

Initially, we do a home visit to evaluate the patient's family circumstances and their income. Most patients can apply for insurance to cover a portion of the fees (usually 30-50%) and are able to raise some money from family, friends and neighbors. The Viet Nam Health Improvement Project supports patients by donating the shortfall. We also provide post-operative follow up, to help our patients recover and return to normal life.

Thanks to a donation from the Griffin Foundation, we were able to support surgery for over 60 people since 2012. The people have ranged in age from 19-45 years. All of our patients have had successful surgery and have returned to work, study or their home duties.
